Create Polar Chart for Power BI


Step 1 – Get the visual


You can get the visual from our website, Microsoft AppSource or Power BI desktop/web.

a. Website - Go to the visual page and click on ‘Get Trial’ button. You will be redirected to the pricing page where you will provide your email id and click on the ‘Download Visual’ button.
You will receive a mail which will contain the link to download .pbiviz file and a free trial license.

Step 2 – Map your data in the fields available


After importing the visual in Power BI, map data in the given fields. Here we have mapped ‘Attributes’ in Category, ‘Audi A4’ in Field 1 and ‘BMW X1’ in Field 2. Up to five fields can be mapped in total.

Step 3 – Format your visual further


a. License Details - If you want to check how your visual works in other Power BI platforms besides Power BI desktop, you have to fill License Details section.

b. Layout Section – In case you don’t want to see the Conditional Color Formatting and Sorting icons present on the top left of the visual. You can switch off the Show Toolbar button.

d. Angular and Radial Axis – The Angular and Radial Axis can be formatted under these sections. You can choose the type of axis, axis color, axis label formatting, and more.

e. Field Section – In the 'Field' section, you can configure various properties of the chart, including the Polar series type, transparency, bar, area, line, marker, and label properties.

i. Polar Series Type - The polar series type can be chosen from Bar, Bubble, Line, Smooth Line, Stacked Line, Stacked Smooth Line, Area, Smooth Area, Stacked Area, and Stacked Smooth Area.

ii. Area Properties – The area color can be customized, and the fill type can be chosen as None, Plot, Self, or Auto. Options to show the line and marker are available, which will make their properties available as well.

iii. Line Properties – The line style can be chosen from options such as Solid, Dot, Dash, Long Dash, Dash Dot, or Long Dash Dot. 'Connect gaps' can be turned on or off (it connects missing points of the line). Additionally, the line color and thickness can be set. The option to show the marker is available, which will make its properties available as well.

iv. Marker Properties - The marker size, color, fill color (filled/not filled), and symbol can be customized. Additionally, the marker border width and color can be set.

v. Bar Properties - The bar color and border width can be set. Bar patterns can be enabled or disabled using a toggle. Options for pattern type, filling or not filling the pattern, pattern color, pattern transparency, pattern size, and pattern density can be set.

vi. Label Properties – In this section, the label size, color, and style (bold, italic, underline) can be customized. Additionally, the label position and unit can be adjusted.

Step 4 – Advance Feature (Conditional Color Formatting and Sorting)


a. Conditional Color Formatting - You can color the polar based on data fields or rules. You can use Conditional Color Formatting documentation to learn more about this section.

Colors are applied based on the data provided by field mapped with Color. Click on ‘Conditional Color’ icon on the top left side.

b. Sorting - PBIVizEdit offers great sorting flexibility for all its visuals. Below, we have shown how to create and apply custom sorting based on the fields you choose.
